Grace Upon Grace

More Musings on... Sobriety and Wild River Currents
by Grant Christensen
September 16, 2019

Today I celebrated 36 years of sobriety from alcohol and drugs. I am so very grateful for the Father's boundless and immeasurable love, a Father who doesn't quench smoldering wicks, nor throw away bruised reeds! I am so very grateful for the powerful grace of Jesus, a grace that has radically transformed my life, a grace that forgave me, saved me and vouchsafed for me eternal life! I am so very grateful for the Holy Spirit who has so faithfully guided me, counseled me, kept me and empowered me through each day--both when I was paying attention and when I wasn't--who like a wild river in a springtime flood has drawn me out into the depths where my feet no longer touch the ground, carried along wherever the wild river currents will take me.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:17, 18 (RSV)
